ArrowCorps5: Week One in Review

This summer, as many of you know, ArrowCorps5 is making history across America. Nimat Chuppecat is proud to have three of our Arrowmen on the staff of the prestigious InstructorCorps, the cadre of leaders that attend each site to manage the five projects. These three model scouts are Brian Chrzanowski, Jacob Richardson, and Bradford Lichota. Currently they have just completed the first of five sites - Mark Twain National Forest. Below is a video review of the week. It was created by Robert Mason, the chairman of the Digital Media Team of the Order of the Arrow.

It should be acknowledged that this website now has more content of what has happened at the ArrowCorps5 sites than any other section website as well as the national OA site, and also is the only OA website in the world with video footage of the events. This provides one more reason why Section C-2A surpasses any other section when it comes to general excellence.

A Belated Congratulations

A belated congratulations to many deserving participants of our section conclave last month:

First, congrats to our newly elected officers. Jason Smith, a Vigil Honor member of Migisi Opawgan was elected Section Chief. Tyler Black, a Vigil Honor member of Chippewa, advanced to Vice-Chief. Dan Tincknell, a Brotherhood member of Chippewa, was elected to Section Secretary.

Second, good job to those lodges who went home with our Section Awards: Manitous earned the DeCourcy Award, Cuwe held onto its possession of the Wischixn, and Chickagami Lodge proudly hoisted the Cuwe Stick Sunday morning.

Lastly, congratulations to this year's recipients of the Dan Ling Service Award. Sonny Strimpel, Peter Gregory Holland, and Jacob Richardson each earned the medal that reportedly "looks a bit like Han Solo" according to one anonymous scout at the ceremony.

With NCLS over, the eye of the Order of the Arrow has turned to focus on the five week conservation extravaganza of ArrowCorps5, just months away. Next summer five thousand arrowman, all with implements of destruction, will invade national forests for a week each. Once there, the Arrowmen's job will be to destroy invasive species, add trails to the beautiful landscape of the forests, and generally have as much fun as humanly possible. There are five national forests involved that are located across the nation from California to Virginia, and are all sizes from 100 acres to 1.3 Million.

Chippewa Lodge 29 has settled on George Washington and Jefferson National Forest as its summer destination of 2008. "We are planning on sending the largest contingent we possibly can so we can help out, have fun, and represent," reports Brad Lichota, Vice Chief of Activities of 29. "It is sure to be a blast."

Section Conclave a success

May sixth was greeted with melancholy as arrowmen from around southeastern Michigan had to say goodbye to their new and old friends and brother lodges left each other, looking forward to meeting up next year. Camp Teetonkah, the oldest camp in the section with the newest dining hall, was well recieved by the scouts that attended. Fun and Fellowship were had by all: even Don Hough, central region chief and possible personal confidant of Fidel Castro, was caught enjoying himself.

On Sunday, the big awards were given out. Chippewa 29 recieved the Coup Stick, Manitous 88 got the DeCourcy Award, and Cuwe went home with the Wischixn.
